This contest was 10 minutes from my house and a first year contest.  Also this was our first contest without vending (had back surgery 4 days before).  I felt great and was ready to start the new season of with a good cook.  Arrived on Friday afternoon and started to set up.  I dropped off a brisket I had picked up for my friend Tommy from Blitzkrieg BBQ, actually I had an extra one that I was planning on using in Winter Haven in a few weeks.  I heard that Tommy had a hard time finding one where he lives so I told him I would bring it for him, all I requested was if he won with it he would give me his secrets for brisket.  Long story short he placed 1st and I'm still waiting for it.  We placed 5th in brisket and 10th in ribs.

This is one of my favorite contest because it's close to home and  we get to see and feed good BBQ to many of our friends.  We usually do pretty good at this contest and we did pretty good here again this year.  Great weather this year and we had a good time seeing all our good friends.  We placed 2nd in Ribs (missed 1st place by 1 1/2 points, my fault because I messed up on the presentation score). an 8th place Pork.  We just finished outside of the top ten, finishing 11th out of 30 teams.

This contest was a KCBS (Kansas City Barbeque Society) which brings a lot of very good cook teams from around the country.  This was our 2nd year at this competition.  We had a pretty good cook and the rusults showed.  We took 4th in Brisket, 14th in Ribs and Pork.

For the second contest in a row we battled the rain, the good thing there wasn't any wind.  The rain finally stopped around 9am on Saturday morning.  Friday, we got to hang out with some of our good BBQ buds.  We met some more great people.  Many thanks to the Q Crew, Garrett, Deanna, and Ryan for their help and support.  Resuls were not as expected, but oh well, we'll be back at it in a few weeks to try again.

We braved the wind and rain this weekend and finished 14th overall out of 32 teams,
not bad but I would have liked to finish better.  13th in chicken, 12th in ribs, 9th
in pork and 16th in brisket.

Nice location and well organized for the first year event.  Vending was very good and we received a lot of great complements on the ribs and the pulled pork.  We sold about 40 racks of ribs and 18 pork butts, we sold out of everything by 3:30.  My ribs and chicken truned out really good, well aleast I though.  The pork didn't turn out as good as I had hope for, but the judges like it.  I was totally suprised the we got a call in pork, 2nd place.  We finally broke into the top 10 overall...an 8th place finish.  I was pretty pleased with the results, chicken 11th, ribs 12th, pork 2nd, and brisket 15th.  Another big thanks to the Q Crew for all their hard work.

This competition was a small one, about 20 teams.  Great location with lots of trees for shade, it was a hot one.  My meat entries didn't please the judges this time for some reason, I thought I turned in some good stuff, the ribs were really good again.  I want to thanks my son Garrett for his hard work as always.  Thanks to Deanna, Ryan, Mark, Cheri, Matt, and my Mom (she made the trip from Ohio to experience the craziness of BBQ competition).

This is one of my favorite places to compete, great location, great competition.  First of all I want to thank 2 of the Q Crew, Herman and Sally Glenn for all their hard work and support they had provided over the last year.  This was their last competition because they are moving to Texas.  We're going to miss you guys.  This was our best finish so far this year, 2nd in ribs and miss the top 10 in brisket by just .11 points.  Finished 13th out of 48 teams overall, we're getting closer to a top ten.

Great competition, nice location on the lake but would have been better if we placed higher than we did.  We missed the top ten in pork, finished 11th.  A big thanks to the Q Crew for all their help.
